MOIRA SMITH
The "Moira Smith" had to be evacuated on Jan 26, 2011, after smoke billowed from the engine room at 9.30 a.m. while it was travelling on the Hudson River with 27 people aboard. No one was badly hurt among the 25 passengers and two crew members. The smoke was caused by a small fire in the engine room, the Coast Guard is investigating. The incident occurred at 9:30 a.m., about 100 yards offshore and a mile south of the George Washington Bridge, about five minutes into the 13-minute trip from Edgewater to New York Waterway’s West 39th Street terminal in Manhattan. At least one engine began to overheat and smoke. Another New York Waterway ferry, the "Robert Roy", aided the "Moira Smith", taking on its occupants and ferrying them back to Edgewater. Several passengers continued on to Manhattan, while others were checked out by paramedics. One passenger was taken to Englewood Hospital after inhaling smoke.
