Hard landing at Liberty Island
The "Miss New Jersey" had a hard landing on Liberty Island on Aug 27, 2013, and injured at least eight passengers. The ferry crashed into a dock shortly after 3 p.m. while carrying 497 passengers and nine crew members. The eight passengers who were injured had mostly scratches and bruises. Damage to the ship and dock was minor. The Coast Guard routinely drug-tested the crew. The ship was being held on Liberty Island while investigators work to determine what caused the crash. Statue Cruises were working with the National Park Service to identify the cause of the hard landing.
