Russian ship refloated
The 'Mikhail Somov', which had run aground between the Komsomolsky Isls and Wilchek Land near the Franz Josef Land archipelago on July 25, refloated unassisted on Aug 7. Divers examined the hull, and on Aug 15 the ship headed to Arkhangelsk with an ETA as of Aug 2ß.
Crew involved in illegal extraction of aquatic biological resources
Employees of the Border Department of the Federal Security Service of Russia in the western Arctic region carried out control and verification measures on information about the possible involvement of the crew of the "Mikhail Somov" in the illegal extraction of aquatic biological resources. The ship had berthed in Arkhangelsk on Nov 18, 2018. As a result of the inspection on board the ship, illegally harvested fish products of sturgeon, salmon and whitefish were found weighing more than 1,850 kilograms. Six specimens of Siberian sturgeon with a total weight of 35 kilograms, 108 Atlantic salmons with a total weight of 638 kilograms, 1404 whitefish with a total weight of 1179 kilograms, a reefer container and a 60-meter fishing net were seized. According to preliminary estimates, the damage caused to the aquatic biological resources of the Russian Federation amounted to more than 15 million rubles. A procedural decision will be made based on the results by the Frontier Department of the Federal Security Service of Russia. RSV Mikhail Somov completes her first Arctic stations resupply mission 2017
The ice-class Research / Survey Vessel of North Territorial Department for Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring (HEMD) Mikhail Somov has returned to Arkhangelsk yesterday, Aug 8 from her first voyage this year to supply the Arctic stations with vital cargoes, the HEMD press office said. The 2017 resupply mission included delivery of fuel, foodstuffs, equipment, tools, medicines, overalls and other supplies to remote polar stations (FDS) of Murmansk HEMD and Severnoye HEMD. The vessel also delivered construction materials and teams of workers for renovation of premises at Marine Hydrometeorological Station-2 (MG-2) Kanin Nos, MG-2 Severny Kolguev, MG-2 Indiga, MG-2 Ust-Kara, MG-2 Solovki and Y. Fedorov MG-2.
