Trawler towed to breakers

The 'Z-84 Calypso' has finished its last fishing trip after 47 years of service in April 2022 and was laid up by its owner Steve Depaepe from Damme in Zeebrugge. Trawler suffered steering and electricity loss

The 'Calypso' with five crew members on board was disabled with a steering loss and no electrics on Feb 19, 2021, at 11.30 p.m., and also sustained damages to ots bridge windows, and door in position 50 11 N, 005 59 W. A PAN relay was broadcasted, and the lifeboat of the Padstow RNLI attended the vessel on Feb 20 at 02.36 a.m. The trawl of the vessel was recovered, and repairs were effected. The vessel did not need any assistance and was underway in the southbound lane of the Land's End Trafffic Separation Scheme at 4 a.m., bound for Zeebrugge with an estimated sailing time of 40 hours. The VHF of the vessel has been repaired and had working internet, but no AIS. Hourly welfare checks with the vessel via VHF took place. After the ship passed from the British SAR Region into the French SAR Region, the MRCC Jobourg took over the coordination with the vessel.
