MFV BLAKE
In the evening of Feb 25 a fire broke out aboard the "Admiral Blake - PH 440", 136 gt (IMO: 8816039), at the Visser Yard at Den Helder. Electric installations inside the wheelhouse were alight. The ship had entered the yard the previous day coming from Plymouth after having been in collision with the boxship "Boxford" on Feb 11. Perhaps there was a short-circuit as a consequence from the impact. Workers of the Shipyard Visser were able to extinguish the fire soon after discovering the fire which also caused considerable smoke development. The "Boxford" is actually underway to Izmir having already called at Istanbul and Perama after the collision.

At 1835 Feb 11 2011 boxship Boxford collided with fishing vessel Admiral Blake 30 nm S off Start Point, Devon. Brixham Coastguard received a mayday call reporting that they had a man overboard. One other crewman had also fallen overboard and although he had been recovered back on board he was cold and wet. There were two other people on board who were reported to be safe and well. They also stated that they were not in danger of sinking, however they were taking on water. At 19.35, after an hour of being in the water, the rescue boat from the Boxford recovered the man overboard. He was transferred to the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital suffering from severe hypothermia. Despite suffering extensive damage, the crew had managed to relieve sufficient water from the vessel using the pump on board the lifeboat that they were able to be towed by Salcombe lifeboat to meet the Plymouth lifeboat, who will then pick up the tow and take them into Plymouth.
