Fishing vessel towed to Shoreham
The "Eternal Promise", (159 gt, built 1992), suffered a main engine cylinder failure, resulting in a loss of engine power in position 050 48.42 N, 000 14.78 W, on June 10, 2018, at 08.22 a.m. The fishing vessel with a crew of five on board, had 13 tons of bunker marine diesel fuel in its tanks. The vessel was unable to proceed to the port with its own power and dropped amchor. The master requested towing assistance. The "Eternal Promise" was then pulled to Shoreham by the local lifeboat and berthed at 10.48 a.m. Photo: https://scontent-frx5-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/34919492_1691178427598312_7877151216944283648_n.jpg?_nc_cat=0&oh=c3818fb6c3132542d8bea47557fed820&oe=5BC0CB13
Skipper of Becky Lout fined with 6000 pounds
The skipper of the "Becky Lou" has been fined £ 6,000 for fishing without a licence inside Guernsey's 12-mile limit. The Becky Lou was impounded by the Sea Fisheries vessel "Leopardess" on Feb 11. The Brixham skipper Anthony Shine pleaded guilty when he appeared in the island's magistrate's court. When sentenced he was given the choice of three months in prison or paying the fine. Advocate David Domaille, the defence counsel, told the court the new licensing law, which came into effect on Feb 1 , was not well-known among UK fishermen. Judge Philip Robey said he took this into account when passing sentence, but warned harsher penalties would be given out for similar offences in future.
