Tanker in collision with bulkcarrier
The "Meridian Express" collided with the bulk carrier "Southern Light" on Jan 23, 2018, at a10.40 p.m. on Gibraltar West Anchorage in the Bay of Algeciras. The ship, sailing in ballast, was departing Gibraltar anchorage, while the "Southern Light", loaded with yellow corn in bulk, was anchored. The "Southern Light" lost its starboard anchor and suffered a dent on her starboard bow. The "Meridian Express" sustained a gash of approximately five meters length at the port side bow underneath the water line and another gash of approximately two meters at the port side foreship. The tanker had arrived from Lagos on Jan 23 and seemed to have struck the bulk carrier while maneuvering. Attempted robbery off Nigerian coast
While conducting STS operations on Jan 5, 2018, at 6.15 a.m. the crew of the "Meridian Express" spotted two robbers on the upper deck near the forecastle, in position 06 17 80N, 003 19 70E. The alarm was raised and the crew mustered. Seeing the crew alertness, the robbers jumped overboard and escaped empty handed. The incident was reported to the Nigerian Navy.
