The Transportation Safety Board of Canada has begun an investigation into the cause of the grounding of the "BBC Steinhoeft". Investigators of its marine division boarded the vessel on Apr 1 to talk to the crew of about 20. They are to issue a report on whether human error or a mechanical failure may have led to the incident.Eight ships were prevented from moving through the system, but all were expected to have departed Apr 1.

The "BBC Steinhöft" ex "Beluga Fusion", which ran aground in the St. Lawrence Seaway near St. Lambert Lock, between the Jacques Cartier and Victoria bridges on Mar 30 around 3:15 a.m. is now in the Port of Montreal after it was refloated on Mar 31 about 1: 30 p.m. by two tugboats which towed it to to Section 44 in the Port of Montreal for inspection. A dive inspection was to be carried out to assess any damage before the vessel is allowed to leave port. There was no pollution and none of the ship's crew of about 20 was injured. There was speculation it could have been the result of human error or mechanical failure causing it to veer off the course. On the whole eight vessels were delayed, seven upstream and one downstream.
