Disabled cargo vessel towed to Arkhangelsk
Coming from Eemshaven, the "Mekhanik Yartsev" suffered a propeller breakdown on Oct 23, 2018, at 08.20 a.m. north of Arkhangesk while sailing from Eemshaven to Arkhangelsk. The owner sent one of it's other ships, the cargo m/v "S. Kuznetsov" (IMO: 9210359), to assist the disabled, drifting "Mekhanik Yarrtsev". Towage commenced on Oct 24 at 10 a.m. Oct 24. The "Mekhanik Yartsev" arrived at Archangel Shipyard, on Oct 25 at 6.30 p.m.
Engine failure after leaving Southampton
Soon after she left the port of Southampton enroute to Warrenpoint on Jan 22, the "Mekhanik Yartsev", carrying 2580 metric tonnes of timber, was reported as not under command and repairs were being conducted on a small oil pipe to the main engine, in position 50 37 33N, 01 34 34W in the night. The repairs were completed at 12.36 p.m., the engines were restarted and the vessel was presently again underway to its destination, making 10 knots.
Listing cargo ship righted
The "Mekhanik Yartsev" which became stricken in the Solent with a 20-degree list on Dec 26, 2017, has been righted. The ship had been taken to Southampton docks two days later. Its cargo of timber had since been jettisoned and weights added in order to right the vessel. The ship, which was en route from Riga to Warrenpoint in County Down lost some pallets overboard before it developed a list in the Solent. The aglist had been caused by cargo being lost from a hatch cover and water getting into tanks on the port side. The timber was jettisoned into the sea in a controlled manner, then retrieved and weights were added to the starboard side. The vessel was under control and would be assessed for damage. The crew of 13 had been living on board throughout the operation with all their facilities available, albeit at a slant. The ship was expected to depart for Warrenpoint by next week if cleared by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency.
