Pacific Enterprise searching for survivors of Ginga

Mon Dec 26 11:55:17 CET 2011 Timsen

The "Pacific Enterprise" was involved in the SAR operation for the Indonesian flagged trawler “Ginga” which sank with eight people aboard early Dec 25, 2011, in a fierce storm, leaving three dead and five others missing, in the La Perfuse Strait, which divides the southern part of the Russian island of Sakhalin from the northern part of the Japanese island of Hokkaido. The eight aboard the ship were five Russians and three Indonesians. Two of the three dead bodies were identified as Russian citizens with the other remaining unidentified. A joint search operation conducted by Russian and Japanese rescuers was underway. The Russian search and rescue group comprised the rescue vessel "Atlas", the reefer "Ozersk", the boats "Paliya" and "Zaliv Vasilyeva" and an Mi-8 helicopter, while the Japanese team included the patrol boat "Rebun" and a plane. A distress call from the ship came at 6.40 p.m. on Dec 24, when north-west winds of 14 meters per second were blowing in the area. The vessel was sailing from the Japanese port of Wakkanai.
