Sheerleg started raising sliced lock gate in Kiel

On March 29, 2018, the "Matador 3" started salvaging the lock gate in Kiel-Holtenau which had been sliced by the container m/v "Akacia" in February. The work commenced in the morning and was due to last until March 30 morning. The first half of the gate which had been cut in two by divers during the recent days was lifted onto the barge "Hörn 20" at 5.30 p.m. At 4.30 p.m. it was pulled out of the water. Before, workers of the Nobiskrug Yard and the Canal Authority had started dewatering the ballast tanks of the gate to reduce the weight. The lifting of the gate had commenced around 2.15 p.m. after the sheerleg was positioned off the lock since noon. Matador 3 found shelter at Millbay

A GIANT floating crane has been taking refuge from the weekend's wild weather in Millbay. The Matador 3, a 70-metre seagoing crane barge, left Millbay on May 1, 2012 afternoon to resume her journey from Germany to Liverpool. She was towed into Cawsand Bay two weeks ago. Dave Atkin, port manager for Associated British Ports at Millbay and Teignmouth, said: "When the weather deteriorated she asked for a berth in Millbay because she can only move in calm conditions.
