Grounding on Süderoog

In the night of Nov 25, 2013, the "Marschenland" ran aground on the west side of the Süderoog Sand. At 1.30 a.m. the crew of two alerted the DGzRS which dispatched the lifeboat "Eiswette" of the Station Nordstrand. The boat was on scene at 3 a.m. The "Marschenland" was meanwhile pushed higher onto the sand, the swell was breaking over the wheelhouse. The lifeboat backed in on the vessel, thereby hitting repeatedly the ground in spite of the draught of only 1,3 meters, and the crew was able to connect a towing wire. They managed to pull the "Marschenland" back into deep water and escorted the vessel for another 30 minutes, but the stable steel ship had withstood the grounding well. At 5.30 a.m. the "Eiswette" was back at its station.

Engine failure in the Northsea

On Dec 27, 2011, the lifeboat "Theodor Storm" of the DGzRS-station Büsum was called to assist the "Marschenland" in the afternoon. The ship had suffered engine failure and was adrift in winds of 5 Beaufort in the Süderpiep off the coast of Dithmarschen in the Northsea. Due to the hydraulic failure the fishing gear had to be pulled aboard with muscle power. The "Theodor Storm" then towed the „Marschenland“ to Büsum. Bereits in den frühen Morgenstunden war der Seenotkreuzer NIS RANDERS/Station Maasholm am Ausgang der Eckernförder Bucht in der Ostsee im Einsatz. Der Kapitän des knapp zehn Meter langen Kutters „Gotland II“ (Heimathafen Eckernförde) hatte die Seenotretter um Hilfe gebeten, nachdem sich sein Schiff bei südwestlichen Winden um sechs Beaufort (bis etwa 50 km/h Windgeschwindigkeit) rund 700 Meter vor der Küste von Bookniseck das Netz in den eigenen Propeller gezogen hatte. Das Tochterboot ONKEL WILLI der NIS RANDERS nahm den Kutter auf den Haken und schleppte ihn sicher nach Damp.
