Medevac off Bahamas
The U.S. Coast Guard medevaced a 74-year-old man from the 'Marella Discovery' 15 nautical miles east of Cat Island, Bahamas, on Oct 9, 2023. Coast Guard Seventh District watchstanders received a medevac request from the cruise shipat approximately 5 p.m., stating one passenger was suffering from a stroke and needed higher level medical care. Watchstanders consulted with a duty flight surgeon, who recommended the medevac. A Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter, forward deployed in Grand Inagua, Bahamas, hoisted the man and transferred him to awaiting emergency medical services in Nassau in the evening. Fire off Amber Cove
The 'Marella Discovery' was temporarily stuck in Amber Cove due to an engine room fire in the evening of July 6, 2023. The ship had sailed from the port of Amber Cove, when at 01.30 a.m. a small fire broke out in one of the vessel's five engines. The crew quickly put it out, and no injuries were reported. The 'Marella Discovery' headed back to Amber Cove to await the arrival of inspectors, which prevented it from returning to its home port of Port Canaveral on schedule, and the next cruise on the vessel has been canceled. About 1,800 passengers were aboard at the time of the incident. The ship sailed from Amber Cove on July 10 at 11 p.m.
Medevac in Balearic Sea
The 'Marella Discovery' oon Aug 14, 2022, requested the urgent evacuation of a passnger which had suffered a heart attack. Salvamento Marítimo in Castellón and Valencia coordinated the emergency response. They mobilized the SAR helicoper helimer 223 which hoisted the patient along with a companion and transported them directly to the heliport of the Hospital de La Fe.
