Abducted sailors freed

Sat Aug 10 23:14:02 CEST 2019 Timsen

Ten Turkish sailors, who were abducted on the "Paksoy-1" Ship on the Nigerian waters, have been released after spending about four weeks in captivity. The sailors, who were abducted on July 13, were released on Aug 9. They were all in good health. The Nigerian Navy on July 17 traced the cargo ship to a port in Ghana, while investigations had continued through the efforts of the Multi-National Maritime Centre in Benin Republic.

Shipping company in contact with pirates

Thu Jul 25 09:44:39 CEST 2019 Timsen

The Turkish shipping company Kadioglu Denizcilik was in contact with the pirates who attacked the "Paksoy-1" in the Gulf of Guinea and abducted 10 of the 18 crew members. It is not known what the pirates demanded. The cargo ship Paksoy-1 was sailing ballast from Douala to Abidjan when it was boarded 150 miles off Brass by armed pirates who abducted 10 crew members after destroying the ship's communications and navigation equipment. A ship of Ghana's Naby fleet subsequently escorted the ship into the port of Tema.

Crew members captured by pirates

Tue Jul 16 12:30:48 CEST 2019 Timsen

Pirates boarded the "Paksoy-1" on its way from Douala, Cameroon to Abidjan, Ivory Coast, and captured part of its crew. Ten Turkish sailors were taken hostage on July 15, 2019, 124 miles southwest of the Brass coast of Nigeria in pos. 02: 58N - 004: 40E. The communication and navigation devices on the ship were damaged before the pirates left. Another eight members of the crew remained with the vessel and were reported to be safe. There was no immediate knowledge of the whereabouts of the abducted 10 crew or the pirates except it was assumed they fled into the shelter of the Niger Delta.
