Six crew members washed over board, three missing
Three Vietnamese crewmen were reported missing on Oct 9, 2015, after falling overboard from the "Hsiang Fuh Far" near the Japanese island of Hokkaido the previous night. A search was underway by the Japanese Coastguard for the fishermen. Taiwanese fishing boats operating nearby were helping with the search. The ship had sailed into waters near Tomakomai in search of safety due to the approaching Typhoon Mujigae, which had weakened to an extra-tropical cyclone. The captain of the vessel then notified the Kaohsiung Fishermen's Association in the morning of OOct 9that six Vietnamese crew members fell overboard from the vessel Thursday night at 10:30 p.m. The ship was located about four nautical miles off the coast of Hakodate. The captain immediately asked for help from other ships in the area, and with their help three of the crew members were found, but three were still unaccounted for. The ship had a 61-man crew, consisting of three Taiwanese, 21 Vietnamese, 14 Indonesians, and 23 Filipinos, and was preparing to fish for Pacific saury.
