Russian Port Officials Find Radioactive Truck on K-Line RoRo
The Panamanian-flagged car carrier MALACCA HIGHWAY was held up at the port of Vladivostock on 11 September after customs officials found one of the trucks on board was radioactive. The ship was carrying a cargo of second-hand cars and trucks from Japan and a Mitsubishi Pajero was found to be emitting ionizing radiation 26 times greater than the value of natural background radiation. The equivalent dose rate of gamma radiation on the body surface was 1.28 mc Sv/h as compared to the natural background radiation of 0.05 mSv/h. Furthermore, customs officials note the presence of beta-active radionuclide contamination of the product’s surface, which ranged from 68 to 211 ppm / cm × min.
Car carrier resumed voyage after collision
The "Myan Aung" of Myanmar's Energy Ministryhad unloaded a cargo of oil in Mawlamyine and was on its way back to Yangon when being hit into its port side by the "Malacca Highway" near the city Thilawa on Apr 28, 2013, aroudn 3 p.m. The car carrier berthed in Yangon after the accident and was allowed to continue on May 1. Tanker Myan-Aung sank after collision with car carrier Malacca Highway, Myanmar
Myanmar coastal tanker Myan-Aung collided on Apr 28 13 with car carrier Malacca Highway on Yangon river at around 15:00 LT near Thilawa port. Myan-Aung was on the way to Yangon. Tanker sank, reportedly after capsizing, 17 crew rescued by Myanmar navy ship. Malacca Highway reportedly detained in Yangon for investigation.
