Crewman stable after medevac off Astoria
The Coast Guard medevaced a man from the "Mahi Mahi" which was enroute Honolulu-Seattle on June 15, 2012, after having received a call from the vessel at approximately 11:30 a.m. Coast Guard Sector Columbia River, located in Astoria, launched an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew. The crew arrived on scene at approximately 1:05 p.m., and lowered a rescue basket to the port bridge wing of the vessel. Crewmembers helped place the ailing crewmember into the rescue basket. The helicopter crew hoisted the man to the helicopter where a flight surgeon and EMT qualified rescue swimmer administered an IV. Crewman medevaced from ship off Wash. coast
A Coast Guard spokesman says the agency has flown an ailing crewman from container ship Mahi Mahi 120 miles west of Westport, Wash., to a Portland, Ore., hospital. Petty Officer Nate Littlejohn says the crewman aboard the 820-foot vessel Mahi Mahi had reported chest pains Friday. Once the crewman was helped into a helicopter rescue basket and hoisted aboard the Coast Guard aircraft, qualified personnel administered an IV. The spokesman says the helicopter crew flew the man to Oregon Health and Science University in Portland, where he was reported in stable condition Friday evening.
