Gas leak spotted, evacuation stopped

Thu Jan 22 11:59:01 CET 2015 Timsen

Shell stopped evacuating the "Maersk Curlew" off Scotland after the source of a gas leak was found. The escape was located several hundred metres away from the unit in pipeline infrastructure. It had planned to take all non-essential staff off on Jan 21, 2015, after bubbling was spotted on the sea surface. The release of gas occurred from infrastructure in the vicinity of the floating production, storage and offloading vessel located approximately 130 miles south east of Aberdeen late on Monday, January 19 at 11 p.m. Initial indications were that the escape had occurred from the subsea infrastructure close to the FPSO, which is connected to the Fulmar Gas Line exporting gas to the St Fergus terminal. A Bibby ship has sent divers to close two valves to isolate the FPSO from the pipeline. An investigation will be carried out by a Solstad vessel and ROV.

Shell’s Curlew FPSO on Alert After Subsea Gas Leak Detected

Thu Jan 22 03:04:45 CET 2015 arnekiel

Shell UK says there are no plans to evacuate the Curlew FPSO after a gas leak was detected late Monday night (Jan 20). In an emailed statement, Shell says a release of natural gas originated from the subsea infrastructure located in the vicinity of the floating production facility moored 130 miles south east of Aberdeen. The FPSO is connected to the Fulmar Gas Line which exports gas to the St Fergus terminal in Aberdeenshire. Divers from the Dive Support Vessel (DSV) Bibby Polaris are currently in the process of isolating the leaking infrastructure from the Fulmar pipeline, according to Shell.
