Engine failure in cyclone
The "Banglar Shikhah" suffered engine failure and a blackout on May 21, 2016, at 1.30 p.m. on the outer roads of Chittagong while the cyclone Roanu passed. The ship was dragged out to the sea from the mooring at Alfa point of the outer anchorage of Chittagong port at noon. Both engines conked out due to a power failure while the crewmembers were trying to keep the ship in its position. The ship was brought to safer place later with the help of Bangladesh Navy and Chittagong port authority which immediately sent their tugs.
Banglar Shikha grounded since more than 3 weeks
On June 8, 2011, the "Banglar Shikha" was stuck on the beach at the entrance point of Mongla port loaded with 7,744 tons of wheat since 23 days. A rescue ship has been brought from abroad to rescue the ship after all efforts by using local technologies failed. The rescue ship "MT Dynamic" from Singapore could only move the ship a little bit during the last two high tides. The ship of left the Chittagang Port on May 13, 2011, bound for Mongla Port. However, the ship got stuck on the beach at the entrance of Mongla Port near Heron Point on May 15. The tug "MT Dynamic" was mobilized from Singapore on June 2 accordingly.
