Sri Lanka ship builder Colombo Dockyard delivers MV Lagoons to India
Feb 27, Colombo: Sri Lanka's leading ship builder Colombo Dockyard handed over the second passenger vessel it built for the Government of India at a ceremony held Thursday under the patronage of Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena. Speaking at the event, the President praised the efforts of the team that produced the vessel, saying that the production of the 400-passenger vessel is a clear testimony of the knowledge and technology of Sri Lankan engineers. MV Lagoons, the second 400-passenger cum 250-ton cargo vessel built for India was completely planned, developed and built by the Colombo Dockyard. The company delivered the first 400-passenger and 250-ton cargo vessel built for India MV Corals to Union Territories of Lakshadweep Administration of the Government of India on 28th October 2014. The contract price of each of these vessels is US$ 29.2 million and the total contract generated revenue of US$ 58.5 million to the local economy. The vessels had been designed for the carriage of passengers and general cargo, between the India's Mainland and Lakshadweep Islands and interisland routes. http://www.colombopage.com/archive_15A/Feb28_1425063600CH.php
