Oil pollution in Liepaja after allision

Upon its arrival from Odense, the 'Lyra' allided with a pier at Liepaja on Oct 26, 2019, at 6 a.m. while attempting to dock in strong winds and wild seas. The hull was breached at starboard side where a tank was located, and an oil leak occurred. The ship was fenced off with booms by the Environmental Board of the State Environmental Service and an oil recovery operation was launched. Approximately 100 liters of heavy fuel oil were spilled at the Freepor at berth 51A. The wind direction has been favorable for the anti pollution work at the shoreline and the breakwater. A spread of the pollution was prevented and the fuel at least partially absorbed. In the afternoon of Oct 26, oily patches covered about 500 to 600 square meters of water. The ship's crew pumped fuel from the damaged bunker tank to another. The situation was now under full control. The Accident and Incident Investigation Bureau assessed the circumstances of the accident. The 'Lyra' sailed again on Nov 1 at midnight, headed to Tarragona, ETA Nov 13. Fletum with a hole in the hull off Portland

The "Fletum" arrived off Portland with a hole in its hull. The ship is fully laden with 4,800 tonnes of ammonium sulphate and currently anchored outside Portland Harbour with a starboard list. The "Fletum" had suffered the hole in its hull on its journey from Antwerp, Belgium to Casablanca, Morocco, and was forced to make for the nearest port in the night of Jan 13, 2012. The Maritime Coastguard Agency sent out an aircraft to track Fletum’s journey towards the Dorset coast to check for signs of a pollution leak. The "Fletum" entered Portland Port for approximately six hours of repairs in the morning of Jan 14 before continuing its journey.
