Luna Se de-registered
Tanzania’s government has de-registered the explosives-laden Libya-bound "Luna S" flying the country’s flag when it was seized by Greek authorities earlier this month. The government said it will also take a closer look at ships being registered in the East African country. The government on Jan 18 said it would revoke the license of the ship involved in transporting the explosives, and another ship caught transporting cocaine.
Wreck of drug smuggler towed to Toulon
On Sep 12, after a transit of three days in the Mediterranean, the convoy of the salvage tug assistance and rescue "Abeille Flandre" and the partially gutted "Luna S" which had been intercepted in the southern Mediterranean on Sep 8 with a large amount of cannabis on board, arrived in the military port of Toulon.´The crew of the vessel remained detained on board a vessel of the Navy under the control of the judge of the High Court of Toulon. The men will be tried in France and could face up to 10 years in prison, if convicted. The "Luna S" has been completely investigated after the fire. According to preliminary estimates, the total amount of cannabis on board was about twenty tons. A little less than half of it has been preserved from fire damage. Inter-regional specialized courts of Marseille were now responsible for the judicial treatment of this case.
