Deadly accident found suspicious
A 47 year old Bulgarian deckhand of the 'Ludogorets' fell 14 meters deep into a cargo hold and died on the spot while the ship was berthed in Samsun on Oct 12, 2021. The police launched an investigation and found the circumstances of the accident suspicious. The bulk carrier with a cargo of copper had arrived in port, coming from Bourgas, on Oct 9. It sailed again on Oct 13 at 4.10 p.m., headed to Poti with an ETA as of Oct 14.
Navibulgar takes German handysize pair (Marbioko renamed Ludogorets)
Bulgarian handysize specialist Navibulgar has completed the purchase of a pair of Chinese-built handysize bulkers from Germany’s MarConsult. The 29,000 dwt Marbacan and Marbioko, have changed hands and been renamed Oborishte and Ludogorets. No price was given by brokers for the transaction. The new additions to its fleets lifts the number of modern bulk carriers in the Navibulgar fleet to around 30 ships, and that is expected to grow further by the end of the year as it takes delivery of more 36,000 dwt newbuildings from China.
Crew stranded on bulker in Toledo
The Ukrainian and Romanian crew has been ordered not to exit the "Fritz" on the Maumee River in Toledo. The bulk carrier has been sitting on one side of the river since Aug 6, 2014, coming from Hamilton. The vessel was detained by the U.S. Marshal’s Service over unpaid fees of nearly $900,000. The fate of the crew onboard was unknown. It was not clear if they have received their wages or how many supplies they have on the "Fritz". The authorities feared that if the crew deserts, there would be no one to move the vessel even if the debts were paid. The vessel was supposed to unload steel coils but the cargo was still on the ship. In mid-July the vessel was reported stranded in Oshawa with unpaid wages, supplies running low and a technical issue. The crew made an unscheduled stop to seek help. According to witnesses, they fished in the Lake Ontario to survive. They stayed in Oshawa for two days when a new foreign investor paid the crew and got the ship moving again.
