Two German shippers found not guilty in deadly collision
The two German crew members of the "LRG Gas 86" who ran over the yacht "Carnat" in Zeeland were not guilty of the death of the two people on board. This was determined by the court in Middelburg on July 2, 2015. The Germans have been acquitted. The prosecution had asked a fine of 3,500 Euros and one month prison sentence. The ten-meter yacht was run over on Aug 13, 2013 on the Canal through South Beveland at Wemeldinge, near the Post Bridge. On board was the couple Bergman-Van Rysselberghe (61 and 63 years) from Hulst. During the trial the master and the mate of the ogas tanker asserted that they had not seen the "Carnat". The accident happened a few minutes after the master had taken over the helm of the helmsman. The nautical prosecutor Mr. R. Schoute said at the hearing that the yacht at some point should have been noted after the gas tanker entered the canal coming from the Easter Schleldt from the Eastern channel ascended. The court did not find this proven.
