Bow visor needs further repairs
On Dec 12, it turned out that the bow visor of the 'Lord of The Isles’' required a further repair. As a consequence, the additional service departing from Oban at 3 p.m. has been cancelled. Repairs were continuing on Dec 13, and more sailings including the scheduled departure from Oban at 3 p.m. and the arrival at Lochboisdale at 8:30 p.m. had to be cancelled.
Sailings still cancelled
The issue with the bow visor, which occurred on the northward passage, after the long-awaited return of the 'Lord of the Isles' to the Lochboisdale-Mallaig route following its annual overhaul in Liverpool, has not yet been fixed as of Dec 12, and the sailings remained cancelled with an update promised during the run of the day. The ship remained berthed in Oban, where CalMac in-house specialists and contractors went on board to evaluate the fault. Additional sailings on the Sound of Barra, which provide a connection between Oban and Castlebay, were extended. After repairs progressed well, subject to final tests, the vessel may operate the following additional services: Departure Oban – 3 p.m. Arrival Lochboisdale – 8:30 p.m.
Ferry sidelined due to bow visor issue
The 'Lord of the Isles', serving on the route Oban-Lochboisdale, suffered a technical issue with the bow visor on Dec 9, 2024. As a consequence, initially the 10:00 a.m. sailing from Oban to Lochboisdale has been cancelled. Contractors have been arranged to attend the vessel and investigate the issue and carry out repairs. The service has later been cancelled for the rest of the day and also the 10:00 a.m. sailing from Oban on Dec 10 was scrapped. An update on the progress of repairs was to be provided on the afternoon of Dec 10.
