Safety equipment problem on ferry
The Whalsay ferry was reduced to a single vessel service in the afternoon of dec 18 2019, after a minor problem was found with safety equipment on the 'Linga'. The ferry was attended by engineers in Symbister after the problem was found during the staff’s weekly drill.
Single vessel for Whalsay ferry service
The Whalsay ferry service is operating on a single ferry for the rest of today, due to technical issues with the Linga, the SIC has said. The council has apologised for any delays. For further information check the SIC’s ferries voicebank on 01595 743973.
Ferry sidelined due to technical trouble
The Whalsay ferry "Linga" developed a technical fault and was taken out of service in Symbister. She will require parts and fitting by a specialist engineer from Norway before she returns back in operation. Once these have been fitted, and the vessel has undergone safety checks, it should return to service later this week. The Shetlands Island Council estimated this could be on Jan 8, 2015. Meanwhile, the Whalsay route will be operating a single vessel timetable, using the "Hendra". She will follow the "Linga"’s timetable. Existing bookings were suspended and operating on a first come first served basis.
