Grounding occurred during evasive manoever
The captain of the "Lightning" which ran aground in Boston on Aug 16 has been taken off the job pending a drug test. The ferry that runs from Hull to Boston got stuck in shallow waters during low tide near Long Island Head. The Boston EMS transported four patients and described their injuries as minor. There were 84 people on board when the incident occurred at about 7:45 a.m. during the morning commute. The ferry was headed toward Boston when it was cut off by a sports fishing boat, and the captain took action to avoid a collision. Ferry grounded in Boston
The US Coast Guard, state, and local rescue crews responded to athe grounding of the "Lightning" off Long Island in Boston on Aug 16, 2019, at 7:45 a.m. The Boston Harbor Cruises called the Coast Guard Boston to report the ferry ran aground with 84 people aboard. Coast Guard Station Boston and Coast Guard Station Point Allerton rescue crews launched, along with state and local partner agencies. Four people were injured and brought to Black Falcon Cruise Terminal to awaiting emergency medical services. They were transported to various hospitals in Boston. The ferry got underway under its own power to dock in Charlestown. The cause of the incident was under investigation.
