Propeller fouled with mooring line, resumed operations after repairs by crew
Jul 9 -- Ferry L'Heritage I (456 gt, built 1973), fouled its propeller with a mooring line while berthing in Trois-Pistoles, Quebec, Canada, in position lat 48 08 03.6N, long 69 11 13.8W, at 2013 hrs, EDT, Jul 6. The crew carried out repairs at low tide and the vessel resumed operations.
Repairs of ferry take more time
The "L'Heritage I", serving the Trois-Pistoles-Les Escoumins route, remained in Trois Pistoles and was still not back in operation, despite having been called in to reinforce the lack of departures caused by the setbacks of the Matane-Côte-Nord ferry crossing. After the "Apollo" which had been inserted as a replacement vessel, was removed from traffic after alliding twice with docks in February and March, the Société des traversiers du Québec asked Trois-Pistoles-Les Escoumins ferry operators to begin their season earlier. The manufacture of the propeller shafts which were at the end of age, was then put in priority. They were ready just before Easter, but it was not until the validation of the Transport Canada inspectors. Workers have also been slowed by too high tides and have not yet been able to install the equipment. The ferry from Rimouski to Forestville also offered an alternative to the Matane-Côte-Nord link, but the ferry allided with a wharf on April 26 and departures were canceled at least until May 2. Currently, pedestrians can use the air link between Mont-Joli and Sept-Îles or Baie-Comeau, and the "CTMA Voyageur" was carrying heavy between Matane and the North Shore. The Société des traversiers du Québec (STQ) put the "Apollo" on sale by publishing an appeal for interest.
