Cork auctioneer defends price fetched for LE ‘Aisling’ ship

Mon May 15 22:48:51 CEST 2017 arnekiel

The Cork auctioneer who handled the State’s sale of the Naval Service patrol ship LE Aisling for €110, 000 has said he is not surprised if the vessel is now being advertised at multiples of that figure. A Dutch ship broking agency which purchased the ship at auction in late March is advertising it for sale in “very good condition” but with no guide price on its website. The Permanent Defence Forces’ Representative Association (PDFORRA) had expressed concern that the price was being quoted at $750,000 - approximately €685,000. Auctioneer Dominic Daly, who sold the Aisling’s sister ship, Emer, to a Nigerian businessman for €320,000, said he was “delighted” the new owner was”trying to make the best of his purchase”. Mr Daly pointed out that classification of a ship to meet international surveying standards involves “considerable cost”, and Naval Service ships are not classified. http://www.irishtimes.com/news/ireland/irish-news/cork-auctioneer-defends-price-fetched-for-le-aisling-ship-1.3084113

Patrol boat auctioned for 11.000 Euro now offered for 685.000 Euro

Mon May 15 19:38:30 CEST 2017 Timsen

The "LÈ Aisling" which has been disposed of by the Naval Service now was on sale in the Netherlands for almost seven times the price. She was sold for €110,000 at public auction in Carrigaline, Co Cork, to a Dutch ship broker in March. Now, the vessel was being offered for sale from a Rotterdam ship yard for €685,000 - with the new owners warning that, as improvements and upgrades were made to the vessel, the price will inevitably go up. However, Naval Service sources warned that there was no guarantee the former Irish flagship would sell for the specified amount. Auctioneer Dominic Daly said the "LÉ Aisling" represented an unique purchase despite the recent difficulties in the global shipping sector. Netherlands ship broker, Dick van der Kamp, bought the ship for €110,000 with just the second bid at the auction. The vessel sold for roughly one-third the €320,000 the "LÉ Emer" made at public auction almost four years ago.

Former patrol boat renamed Avenhorn

Sat Apr 29 22:43:47 CEST 2017 Timsen

On Apr 27 the Irish tug "Ocean Bank" arrived with the former Irish naval vessel "LE Aisling", now renamed "Avenhorn", in tow from Cork and bound for ‘s Gravendeel. The patrol boat was sold in March at a public auction for 110.000 Euros to Dick van der Kamp Shipsales.
