Search for crew member who fell over board
The US Coast Guard has handed over a search rescue mission over to the United States Navy after spending the night searching the water for a man who fell over board of the "Lara Venture" on March 13, 2018. Watchstanders got a notification at 2:10 a.m. that a 33-year-old Chinese crewman fell overboard the cargo ship at the Cape Charles Anchorage, Norfolk. The man was reportedly fastening a ladder on the anchored vessel when he fell overboard. He was last seen wearing orange coveralls and a dark blue jacket and was not wearing a life jacket. Watchstanders immediately issued an urgent marine information broadcast and an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew from Air Station Elizabeth City, North Carolina, launched. A helicopter squadron from Chambers Field on Naval Station Norfolk, Virginia, has relieved the Coast Guard helicopter crew as of 10 a.m. Anyone with information has been asked to call the Sector Hampton Roads Command Center at 757-668-5555.

Lara Venture rescued 17 after sinking of Philippine ferry
The "Lara Venture" was involved in a rescue Operation after the Philippine flagged ferry "Maharlika II", 1865 gt (IMO 8129773), sank in choppy waters late on Sep 13 midway between Surigao City and Southern Leyte, while en route from Surigao to Liloan, Southern Leyte. The vessel encountered heavy weather with high seas and strong winds, the engine failed around 4 p.m., and the ship capsized after it could no longer be held against the waves and wind. At 4.30 p.m. the ferry "Maharlika 4" started an SAR Operation, later joined by the LPG tanker "Epic St. Martin" and the "Lara Venture". Initial reports said there were 84 people on the ferry – 56 adults, 2 children, and 26 crew. Philippine Coast Guard report mentioned 105 rescued people and two fatalities by 02.14 a.m. LT on Sep 14. 34 already have been disembarked in Surigao, which had most probably been rescued by the "Maharlika4", 53 and two dead were on board of the "Epic St. Martin", one on board the "Orient King" and 17 on board of the "Lara Venture".
