Tug sank in Fargas

The "Lauri" sank at the old service station near the harbor in Pargas. In the evening of Nov 19, 2016, it was discovered that she took on water probably because of rough seas and high winds. The ship submerged up to the main deck with the wheelhouse still above water and a list to starboard side. The owner was working to get the ship back to the surface, but the old quayside was in poor condition, so it was not possible to take install a crane at the edge. On Nov 22 it was tried to pump out the water and oil with a vacuum truck to make the vessel lighter. Some light fuel oil spilt into the water. Floating oil booms were deployed around the tug, but there was no acute risk of contamination as the oil evaporated. The tug has been used for works at the Pargas-Nagu ferry terminal but was moored at the gas dock during the weekend. The tug has been used in the works of Pargas-Nagu ferry terminal, and over the Weekend it has been moored at the gas dock.
