Medevac in Vlaardingen

Sat Feb 06 14:33:38 CET 2021 Timsen

Emergency services were dispatched to the 'Lady Alida' in the morning of Feb 6, 2021, at 9.30 a.m. for a man who fell into a hold of the 'Lady Alida' in the port of Vlaardingen. A cherry picker had to be used to hoist the man from the hold at the berth in the Koningin Wilhelminahaven in Vlaardingen. The fire brigade called a height rescue team and a large number of rescue workers. Te man could be safely recovered and was transported to hospital with presumably a broken leg or ankle. Nothing is known about the circumstances of the accident. Report with photo: https://www.schuttevaer.nl/nieuws/actueel/2021/02/06/hoogwerker-haalt-gewonde-uit-ruim-schip-vlaardingen/

Lady Alida towed to Falmouth - RNLI did great job

Tue Mar 21 09:05:09 CET 2017 Timsen

On March 21 around 2.30 a.m. the "Lady Alida" was towed into the port of Falmouth and docked at the A&P Falmouth Shipyard for inspections and repairs. Before, the Penlee and Sennen Cove lifeboats had spent 11 hrs at sea on March 20 assisting the vessel which had suffered engine failure three miles south of Gwennap Head at 3 a.m. and with a strong SW force 6 wind it had started to drift towards the shore. The Falmouth Coastguard launched both lifeboats in the hope that they could attach tow lines to stop the vessel drifting ashore, or evacuate the crew if that failed. In very difficult conditions, the "Ivan Ellen" and "City of London III" managed to tow the vessel two miles into deeper safer water. The "Lady Alida" then dropped anchor and both Lifeboats headed to Newlyn at 06:20 a.m. At 06:25 a.m., while the crews were having a cup of tea in the Penlee Boathouse, the Falmouth Coastguard requested the relaunch of both lifeboats as the "Lady Alida" was dragging its anchor and drifting towards the shore at over one knot. Just after 7.00 a.m., after an uncomfortable steam, both lifeboats arrived back on scene - the initial plan was to stand by the vessel until a tug arrived from Brixham. But at 08:30 a.m., with the vessel only 2,5 miles from shore and still drifting NE at one knot, the Sennen Cove and Penlee Lifeboats once again attached tow ropes and slowly headed seaward to safer waters. The weather was with heavy rain at times; wind west-southwest force 5-6 with a moderate sea and 3-4 metre swell. The salvage tug on route from Brixham was struggling with the poor weather conditions and making slow progress. A larger tug, the "Alp Centre" , which was anchored in Mount's Bay, was then tasked to assist the "Lady Alida". By the time the tug arrived on scene at 12.30 a.m. both lifeboats had towed the vessel over four miles to safer waters in fairly poor weather conditions. With their job complete the two lifeboats could be stood down after nearly 11 hours at sea. The lifeboats were released at 12.50 a.m., and the “City of London III” returned to the Cove and recovered up the long slip at 1.45 p.m. The boats had to be washed down, checked over and refuelled, ready for the next shout before the crews got a rest. Lady Alida distressed off Gwennap Head

Mon Mar 20 10:54:40 CET 2017 Timsen

Lifeboat crews have been taking part in a major rescue operation since the early hours of March 20, 2017, after the "Lady Alida" suffered a complete engine failure enroute from Terneuzen to Waterford with a cargo of sand. The Penlee Lifeboat and Sennen RNLI were called to the position three miles south of Gwennap Head, in the parish of St. Levan, to assist the seven crew members onboard. At 3.20 a.m., at the request of HM Coastguard, Falmouth, the all-weather lifeboat "Ivan Ellen" was launched from Newlyn. The lifeboat was alongside the "Lady Alida" just 25 minutes after launching and immediately attached a towing wire. The vessel was towed southwards to safer waters at one knot and was then joined by the Sennen Lifeboat "City of London III" which also attached a tow rope. The initial plan was to tow her to Mount's Bay for a safe anchorage but due to the strong SW wind of six Beaufort it was difficult for the lifeboat to turn the vessel. The HM Coastguard at Falmouth agreed that the Lady Alida could anchor in deeper waters south of Gwennap Head to await the assistance of a tug. The Dutch tug "Alp Centre" (IMO: 9398541) was deployed from Falmouth and expected on site within seven hours. The lifeboat remained on stand-by with a strong likelihood that she would have to relaunch when the tug has arrived on scene. The "Ivan Ellen" was relaunched from Newlyn and was making her way back to the "Lady Alida" after she started dragging her anchor, and the lifeboat was to standby with a tow rope until the tug had arrived around 1.30 p.m. The convoy was heading to Falmouth, ETA March 21.
