Bulkcarrier leaves Mongla with 21000 tons substandard wheat
Four months after its arrival at Mongla port, the "Pintail" on Feb 5, 2016, left the port with 21,000 tonnes of substandard wheat in the morning. On Oct 12, 2016, the bulkcarrier had anchored at the port with a consignment of 21,000 tonnes of wheat imported from France. However, officials of the directorate general of food found the grain rotten as well as infested with insects and unfit for consumption just before the consignment was being unloaded. The vessel had reached Chittagong port with a consignment of 52,000 tonnes of wheat in April 2015. After unloading 31,000 tonnes of grain there, the ship started for Mongla port with the rest.
Bulker stranded in Bangladesh since months due to dispute over cargo
The "Pintail" is being stranded in Mongla port since Oct 12, 2015, unable to offload the remaining 5500 tons of a wheat shipment from France, due to bureaucratic troubles in Bangladesh. The Foods Directorate banned the cargo due to unknown reasons. The crew was meanwhile running out of supplies. Food imports authorities found or claimed the wheat was rotten.
