Fire in engine room
A fire broke out in the engine room of the KMP 'Gunsa 8' in the afternoon of July 12, 2021, in the Bangka Strait between southeast Sumatra and Bagka island. All 86 persons on board were safely evacuated and transferred to the nearest port. The Office of the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) of South Sumatra Province sent a rescue team. The team was assisted by personnel from the Tanjung Api-Api Water and Air Police of Palembang and Mentok Bangka Belitung Regency as well as the Port Authority and Port Authority Office of Palembang. The joint SAR team was currently still extinguishing the fire on the vessel. The vessel had departed from Tanjung Kalian Port, Bangka Belitung at 3.40 p.m. en route from Tanjung Api-Api Port, Palembang, South Sumatra.
