Ferry in collision with cargo ship
On Dec 13, 2017, the "Kelimutu" with 516 passengers on board collided with the cargo m/v "Maju 88" on the Sampit river, shortly after its departure from Sampit Port in southern Borneo. The accident happened in the narrow fairway while the ship was proceeding downstream towards the Java Sea. The "Kelimutu" suffered a hull breach of two meters length in the anchor hawse well above the waterline. It had to return to Sampit where the passengers were disembarked and got their tickets refunded. Repairs were expected to last until Dec 15.
Ferry with 1000 passengers ran aground
The "KM Kelmutu" ran aground in the night of Dec 30, 2015, at Dobo in the Arafura Sea, while en route to Timika with around 1000 passengers on board. The vessel was expected to be refloated on Dec 31 with the help of other vessels.
