Repair works at Tuzla
The "Mumtaz Amca" made its cargo discharge operation at Diliskelesi and subsequently was shifted to Tuzla shipyard. Detailed damage surveys were carried out by a surveyor panel to ascertain cause of the incident and the extent of damages. Repair works and maintenance had commenced as per recommendations of class surveyor. The vessel remained stationary in shipyard at Tuzla by March 10 and arrived on Istanbul Anchorage on Apr 13.
Vessel's departure permission notyet issued
Aboard the "Mumtaz Amca" an initial part of technical inspection were carried out by State, P&I surveyors. The detailed inspection will be carried out upon completion of cargo discharge operation at Diliskelesi. Legal investigation were yet to be completed. Crew incident statements were taken by both Harbour Master incident desk and Public Prosecutor. The vessel's departure permission was not issued, due to incomplete formalities and the vessel remained stationary, at Sinop anchorage on March 1.
Explosion killed one
The "Mümtaz Amca" suffered an explosion in the boiler room on Feb 28, 2018, at Sinop anchorage. The ship, being loaded with coal, had sheltered in the Sinop Cape area from a storm, while en route from Tuapse to Izmit. The blast occurred due to trapped gas in the boiler room of the vessel, which was anchored 15 miles off Sinop. The vessel, was taken four miles off the coast of Sinop following the explosion. Rescue teams were sent to the area but an air ambulance was unable to pick up one injured crew member, identified as Kazım Sucu, due to strong winds. Another injured crew member, identified as Ragıp Yanak, was rescued by a maritime police boat and has been referred to a state hospital. The Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), fire-fighters, and police teams wre still present on the shore conducting rescue work.
