No pollution after tanker sank
Despite the fact that the 'Kelsey 2' sank fully loaded with petroleum products and chemicals 25 nautical miles south of Wuqui Island in the Taiwan Strait, no signs of pollution have yet been found in the waters where the tanker was lost. The ship had got on distress after water began to enter the engine room, causing the ship to list to port side. The ship was en route from Hong Kong to South Korea when it sank. Tanker sank, 19 rescued, one dead
The 'Kelsey 2' capsized and sank in the morning of Oct 15, 2022, about 25 nautical miles south of Wuqui island, Kinmen County, in the Taiwan Strait. The tanker was en route from Hong Kong to Gunsan with 20 crew members on board. One of them died, 19 were rescued and survived. The tanker was carrying a cargo of oil and chemicals totalling 7,500 tons and had reported water ingress in the engine room. The tanker was already in trouble in the evening Oct 14, when it reduced speed and changed course.
