Two Filipino seafarers by Apr 1, 2010, were still missing after the "Kea" sank off the coast of Spain on Mar 30. "Rescue operations for two missing Filipino seafarers are ongoing. The "Kea" had been en route to Colombia from St. Petersburg, Russia. Among the crew members were 19 Filipinos, two Croatians, and one Russian, Latvian, and Ghanaian. The 15 Filipino seafarers first rescued are expected to be released from San Rafael Hospital in Coruna, Spain, on April 2, 2010 where they are being treated for bruises and muscle swelling but not any serious injuries. Two more Filipino crew members, who were rescued by another vessel, are en route to Rotterdam in the Netherlands and are due to arrive there on April 3.

On Mar 30, 2010, at 1.30 p.m. the "Kea" which had started to list after cargo shift, finally sank 160 miles off Vilán. The rescue ship "Don Inda" saved 14 crew members, five were hauled up by a Portuguese helicopter, and 1 more with a Spanish rescue plane and two by the m/v "Sappire" in a complicated operation with wave heights of 8 m. The ship had started to list on Mar 29 at 8.30 p.m. underway from St. Petersburg to Culumbia. It carried a cargo of ammoniumsnitrate which poses no danger for the environment. After the mayday call the helicopter "Rescue 34" and a "Merlin" from Portugal as well as the Spanish fregate "Alvaro De Bazán" and the "Helimer" the f/v's "Pesca I" and "'Pesca II" from Xunta and the plane "Rosalía De Castro" were mobilized. Actually two men are still missing.
