Semi submerged cutter towed to Lysekil

Tue Dec 11 11:56:18 CET 2018 Timsen

On Dec 10, 2018, the "KBV 032" was alerted after a 12-m-fv from Smögen had run aground near Lysekil and was in danger of sinking at Stångholmen. The Swedish sea rescue and an SAR helicopter were alerted too. The crew of four managed to save themselves onto shore. Their ship was secured alongside the Coast Guard ship, assisted by the "KBV 001" (IMO: 9380441), and towed to Grötö semi submerged to be investigated by divers who also plugged the vents. The attempt to save the catch of 10 tons herring failed. The wreck of the cutter was lifted out of the water in the port of Lysekil. Patrol boat pulled sunken fishing vessel to shore

Tue Jun 06 12:33:04 CEST 2017 Timsen

The "KBV 032" took a sunken fishing vessel in tow which had capsized on May 5, 2017, at 7 a.m. while under tow by a boat of the Sea Rescue Society west of Vinga in the Gothenburg archipelago. The Swedish Coast Guard deplyoed units to prevent diesel spills. In the afternoon, the crew of the "KBV 032" managed to take the wreck in tow and pull it to Öckerö after discussions with the boat owner's insurance company. Large parts of the fishing boat were below the surface of the water, which made it difficult. There was always a risk that the boat would sink. After a six-hour long towing, the "KBV 032" eventually reached Björnhuvudet on Öckerö where the wreck was raised together with a private company employed by the boat owner's insurance company. At 03:00 a.m. on June 6 the 10-m-fishing boat was salvaged and the environmental operation was also completed after almost a day's work. No oil spill has been detected. The search for drifting fishing nets belonging to the fishing boat was continued with flights during the day. After the unexpected sinking, the crew of two from the fishing boat ended up in the water and was quickly picked up by the towing SSRS unit. The conditions at the site were difficult due to inclement weather and nets which surrounded the wreck which made it difficult for other vessels to get close to it. The rescue forces had no choice but to wait for the winds to decrease and warn other ships and boats.
