Boarding incident in Gulf of Guinea
The 'Kamome Victoria' was reportedly boarded in the afternoon of May 2, 2022, in the Gulf of Guinea, about 55 nautical miles southsouthwest of Cotonou. The entire Indian crew of 21 men should have sought refuge in the ship's citadel. Unverified reporting indicated that the incident may be linked to an ongoing military operation by the Nigerian Navy. The Nigerian Navy have previously operated within waters off Benin. As of May 3, the ship was underway again to Lagos with an ETA as of May 7.
Mysterious grounding of MOL’s tanker, New York
US Coast Guard reported grounding of MOL’s tanker KAMOME VICTORIA, receiving alert message from KAMOME VICTORIA at 1715 LT Aug 25. Tanker ran aground in the Ambrose Channel 5 miles south of Verrazano Bridge. According to AIS track, tanker was refloated some 3 hours later, and brought to anchor near grounding site. It is not clear what happened, judging from AIS track. Vessel was sailing from New York and kept course leading to Sandy Hook, seemingly veering off fairway, then changed course, sailed towards Verrazano Bridge, then after drifting for some time turned back, went off fairway and ran aground. As of 0400 UTC Aug 26, KAMOME VICTORIA was marked as At Anchor. No leak, no damages reported.
