Repair works in Skali under way

Wave broke windows and damaged ship
On Jan 12, 2018, the "Nyborg" was hit by a large wave in the afternoon underway to fishing for mackerel in EU waters between the Faroe Islands and Shetland Islands. The wave broke two large windows on the wheelhouse, and water poured into the bridge and into the crew rooms below. The mate at the helm who stood close to the windows was therefore struck with glass from the broken windows, broke his arm when struck down and suffered other injuries. The engineer quickly shut down the power on the bridge, but virtually all electronics on the were damaged by the water. The main engines onboard also closed down, but it was possible for the crew to reboot the engines shortly after the accident. The fishing vessels "Eysturbúgvin" and "Westbúgvin" were close to the "Nyborg" and after a VHF communication alerted a helicopter to the scene. The injured crew member was medevaced and taken to the hospital in Torshavn by helicopter. Despite the extensive damage to the bridge, the crew still managed to navigate the ship. The "Eyjafjörgvin" and the "Westbúgvin" followed the "Nyborg" towards the Faroe Islands until the inspection ships "Brimil" and "Vædderen" took over. The "Nyborg" entered the port of Runavík, where the damage was now being rectified. Danish report with photo: http://fiskerforum.dk/erhvervsnyt/a/faeroesk-fiskeskib-ramt-af-alvorlig-styrtsoe-10012018
