Yacht reported troubled boat with 207 migrants on board
On the afternoon of Oct 12, 2024, the CROSS Gris Nez informed the Spanish Rescue Centre in Madrid that the 'Juan Thola' had sighted a boat 46 nautical miles from the island of El Hierro. The MRCC in Tenerife was informed accordingly, and the SAR helicopter Helimer 201 and the SAR boat 'Guardamar Talía' were sent to the area. At 7.40 p.m. the crew of the SAR vessel reported that it had located a boat and that the helicopter would remain in the area until the rescue operation was completed. Finally, 207 sub-Saharan people were rescued, including a woman and a minor. At 10.20 p.m. they began disembarking at the port of La Restinga.
