Three crew members dead, six still missing

After the sinking of the 'Joe 2' which with 14 people on board on April 5, three crew members have died and another six were still missing as of April 10. Five crew members were rescued, three of them with injuries, and three bodies were recovered. A search was launched for the remaining six men. An investigation into the cause of the sinking in a storm has been launched by the chief prosecutor's office for Kumluca.

Search for eight missing crew members still on

The SAR operation in the Mediterranean Sea was continued after the 'Joe 2' sank with 14 people in a storm on Apr 5. One body was recovered from the water, five crew members were rescued and eight crew members still missing. The vessel was carrying a cargo of bauxite when it sank. The rescue efforts were hampered by a storm. Eight Coast Guard vessels were dispatched along with two helicopters and a Coast Guard aircraft. The Turkish Navy also sent two frigates and two helicopters. A Coast Guard helicopter spotted two crew members in the water who were rescued and taken to a local hospital. The new French vessel ÄGhjulia des Slops', just delivered and just seven miles away at the time of the distress call at 3.47 a.m., saved two sailors. One more castaway was saved by another ship. The cause of the sinking is unknown and the regional prosecutor's office would conducted an investigation. The 'Joe 2' was subject of a Port State Control on March 16 in Tripoli, Lebanon, which found five deficiencies, but she was not detained.

Nine missing after ship sank in Mediterranean Sea
