Critical after collision with boxship Xiumei Tianjin off Zhoushan
Bulk carrier Jia Li Hai and container ship Xiumei Tianjin collided some 3.5 nautical miles south of Zhoushan, Ningbo area, East China Sea, in the morning Dec 6 13. Xiumei Tianjin struck bulk carrier portside by a bow, in hold area near superstructure. There was water ingress with a danger of sinking. Rescue vessels and tugs towed damaged bulk carrier to shallow waters, probably they’ve been towing both vessels together without uncoupling them, to prevent bigger water ingress. Jia Li Hai was reported to be stabilized in shallow waters off Tangdun. Last Jia Li Hai AIS signal was dated 0130 UTC Dec 7, with at least 3 rescue and pollution control vessels nearby, condition of the vessel unknown. Xiumei Tianjin is docked at Meishan island container terminal. Jia Li Hai is loaded with more than 60000 tons of coal. Xiumei Tianjin was en route from Zhoushan to Shanghai. Jia Li Hai detained
The "Jia Li Hai" of China Cosco Holdings Co. was arrested in Louisiana, becoming at least the second vessel owned by China’s biggest maritime company to be detained in about a month as shipowners pursue overdue payments. The "Jia Li Hai" was detained as Classic Maritime Inc. seeks $2.7 million in fees and costs from Cosco unit Cosco Bulk Carrier Co., according to filings at the U.S. District Court in the Eastern District of Louisiana. Judge Lance M. Africk issued the warrant on Aug. 3, 2011. Both cases concern ships chartered by Cosco on long-term contracts before a plunge in rates caused by slowing demand and rising capacity. In the Singapore case, the "Tianjin", Cosco was paying $87,000 a day for a capesize vessel, or about eight times current rates. more: http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2011-08-09/china-cosco-has-second-ship-arrested-as-owners-chase-overdue-charter-fees.html
