Search for missing passenger called off

Sat Jun 12 22:23:17 CEST 2021 Timsen

Authorities have called off the search for a passenger who went overboard from the 'Jet Cat Express' off the coast of Long Beach. Crews with the Los Angeles County Fire Department and U.S. Coast Guard, along with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, had resumed the search beginning at first light on July 11 after searching throughout the night July 10. The Coast Guard called off the effort after searching more than 600 square miles. The man, identified as 24-year-old Keion Dave, was reported to have fallen off the 'Jet Cat Express' around 6 p.m. on June 10 about three miles off the coast as the high-speed catamaran headed to Santa Catalina Island. The ferry, which was carrying around 150 passengers, returned to Long Beach and passengers were transferred to another ship to continue the trip to the island.

Man fell over board off Long Beach

Fri Jun 11 12:04:52 CEST 2021 Timsen

Authorities searched in the evening of June 10, 2021, for a passenger who fell overboard from the 'Jet Cat Express' at 6 p.m. several miles offshore of Long Beach as the high-speed catamaran headed to Catalina. Ddeckhands saw the man go overboard from the stern of the vessel. They threw a life ring into the water. The ferry returned to Long Beach after about two hours, and passengers were transferred to another ship to continue the trip to the island, although some passengers said they were too upset to continue the trip. Los Angeles County and U.S. Coast Guard boats were searching the area with the help of a helicopter.
