500 kilos of cocaine found in one of 100 removed containers
Customs agents have found some 500 kilos of cocaine in the structure of one of the containers, which had been aboard the 'Izmit Express' and removed during the inspection of the ship, after more than 23 kilos of drugs had initially been found hidden in inaccessible points. In order to search the ship, the more than 100 containers were unloaded at the port. The merchandise remained in the city of Vigo to be inspected. All the containers were passed through the scanner that the Port of Vigo has to check their contents. On Nov 19, the Civil Guard and the Customs Surveillance Service searched the `Izmit Express` for hours in the port of Vigo after drugs were found inside. Coming from Cartagena de Indias, the ship docked in Guixar and it was the captain himself who alerted them, after some suspicious packages in the hold were found. Cocaine found aboard ship in Vigo after captain's alert
The captain of the 'Izmit Express' alerted the authorities in Vigo that some packages had been located abiard the ship, later confirming that it could be cocaine, although the amount found was not yet known. The Civil Guard and the Customs Surveillance Service (SVA) have searched the ship after docked in the port of Vigo on the morning of Nov 19, 2024, at the Guixar container terminal, after leaving Cartagena on Nov 8. The ship left the port again on Nov 20 en route to Malaga.
