Captain died on board
The 62-year old captain of the 'Ivestos X' died on board of his ship on March 13, 2021, while enroute from Lubuk, Kalimantan, to Masinloc. The Filipinonational lost consciousness when the ship was transiting the Sibutu Passage, Tawi-Tawi. The Philippine Navy responded to the medical emergency request, and paramedics boarded the ship, but he could not be resuscitated and was declared dead. His body was taken ashore, and the bulk carrier diverted to Manila here it moored on the port's anchorage in pos. 14° 31.87' N 120° 52.92' E on March 16 around 3 a.m. for formalities and to embark a new Captain.
Error in turning manoever caused allision
An error in a turning manoeuvre by the "Pireas" caused the allision with the Malaysian government vessel "Polaris"(IMO-No.: 9810599), in Singapore waters on Feb 9. The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) said on March 28 that it has completed its probe into the incident and has issued a stern warning to the master of the "Polaris". The vessel had been anchored in a non-designated anchorage within the Singapore Port Limits when it was hit. No injuries were reported after the collision, which occurred against the backdrop of an ongoing maritime boundary dispute between Singapore and Malaysia. The MPA reminded the shipping community to ensure that vessels operating within Singapore Port Limits comply with the applicable regulations
Bulkcarrier detained after collision
The "Pireas" has been detained by the Malaysian authorities after it arrived at Tanjung Pelepas on Feb 9. The ship was underway from Singapore to Tanjung Pelepas when the collision with the Malaysian state ship "Polaris" occurred. On Feb 28 the ship was moored in pos. 01° 15.39' N 103° 28.44' E.
