Ship abandoned after engine room flooding

Fri Dec 06 11:47:50 CET 2024 Timsen

The 'Isa Star, en route from Venice to Batam,' was abandoned in the Red Sea off Hodeidah after engine room was flooded following an explosion on Dec 5, 2024. Upon its distress call, the European Union naval mission Aspidas sent a vessel to the scene for the rescue of the Indian and Ukrainian crew, who were taken to Djibouti. The vessel is managed and operated by the Azimuth Ship Management in the United Arab Emirates, the registered owner is the Global Oceanic Chartering of Hong Kong. There was no mention of the cause of the incident. Initial reports suggested that there was an engine room fire followed by flooding, and not an attack by the Houthis.
