Man died on board of passenger ferry

Fri Dec 09 10:52:45 CET 2016 Timsen

An 80 year old man from Rügen died in the morning of Dec 8 2012, aboard the "Insel Hiddensee“. The ship had sailed in Kloster around 7 a.m. when the man suddenly collapsed. The captain immediately turned around and returned to port. The island doctor was alerted but could only pronounce the man as dead.

Grounding off Hiddensee

Fri Jul 01 10:29:47 CEST 2016 Timsen

In the afternoon of June 30, 2016, the "Insel Hiddenssee" ran aground east of Hiddensee with 329 passengers on board. The sea was calm and there was no immediate danger. As the ship was unable to refloat with own means, the captain alerted the lifeboat "Nausikaa" of the DGzRS station Vitte at 4.15 p.m. Some minutes later the lifeboat headed to the ship which was stuck 2,7 miles from the station. First on scene was the f/v "Alma" which in vain tried to pull the "Insel Hiddensee" off. Only when the "Nausikaa" also had connected a towing wire, the ships were jointly able to pull the passenger ship to deeper water from where it was able to proceed to Schaprode upon Rügen island. The water police Sassnitz launched an Investigation. No damage was reported. Human error may have contributed to allision

Tue Jul 29 11:38:25 CEST 2014 Timsen

Experts surveyed the "Insel Hiddensee" on July 12, 2014 after the allision with the quay of the port Kloster. Results were expected in the next week on the earliest. Possibly human error was the cause, but also a technical failure could not be excluded. Six of the 60 passengers. among them a chiled, and one crew member had been injured when the ship hit the quay the previous evening. They had been treated on scene. The bow of the ferry suffered a hole of 50x50 centimeters, also the quay suffered severe damage. The damage was repaired in a yard before the ship returned to Schaprode.
