Inga Lill towed to Naantali and was found severely damaged
The "Inga Lill" which ran aground and caught fire outside Kimitoön on Aug 27 evening and was later towed to Naantali was to be repaired during the winter season. Divers meanwhile examined the hull but found only little damage. On board had been 17 school children, two teachers and a crew of two men when the ship grounded and during the evacuation caught fire in the engine room and the kitchen above which caused extensive damage. Insulation may have caught fire when the ship's engine worked hard to back off the shallow so that the engine room overheated. Flaws in this regard had already been discovered during an inspection in October 2012. The master, however, has forgotten to report to the Trafiksäkerhetsverket agency that the deficiencies were meanwhile rectified. A group of the Southwest Finland Rescue Department had participated in fire fighting. The ship's captain was suspected of intoxication at the helm.
